WHY STUDY IN AUSTRALIA ?

EDUCATION SYSTEM

 

Universities

The university level of education is the highest level of education in Australia. A student can study either at the undergraduate level or the postgraduate level in a university. In Australia a student will be expected to conduct independent research at all institutions, especially at university. You can choose from a vast range of courses including traditional academic areas of learning and research, as well as more practical courses with a vocational orientation. Generally universities follow semester system and for some programs, they have trimester system.

Vocational

Vocational courses are offered by government funded TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institutes and also by some private colleges. These institutions are closely linked with the industry so the courses are practical and skilled based. In Australia’s vocational education and training institutions you will gain career-focussed skills that are valued and sought by employers. You can step directly into a career or use your vocational studies as a pathway to university.

School

It is compulsory for children aged between 6 and 15, with matriculation exams for university generally at 18 years old. Australian schools are public and private.

English Language Institutes

Specialist English language tuition is offered by more than 210 institutions located all over Australia, in major cities as well as country centres.

The average international student in Australia spends about A$230 per week on accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, transport, international and domestic travel, telephone and incidental costs. Scholarships are available for international students however the competition is intense and the majority of international students in Australia are full-fee paying students.

LANGUAGE

From 05 November 2011, the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs now accepts Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Pearson Test of English (PTE) and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) as alternative English language tests. Some visa Assessment Levels accept the IELTS entry levels required by the education institution.

Australian education institutions can only accept students with an appropriate level of English proficiency. Institutions set their own English language requirements and may have different English langugage entry levels for the proposed level of course than those required for a student visa. You should check the entry requirements with your proposed institution.

 ADMISSIONS

More than 1000 institutions are registered to deliver courses to international students in Australia. Australia has four main education and training sectors offering qualifications from Senior Secondary Certificate of Education to university PhD. These sectors are integrated so you can receive credit for previous study. You can move easily from one qualification level to the next, and from one institution to another.

Intakes

The main intake for all Australian Institutions is February. All universities have admissions open for all courses in this intake. There is also a Mid-year intake offered by some Australian Universities during July. However, all courses may not be offered in this intake. Whether or not a University will offer a July intake can be found out on the respective university’s website, university brochures or from our counselors. Some universities also follow November – summer intake. It is available only for limited number of universities and limited courses.

Application Fees

Each university has different application fees which could be waived during Events like Spot Admissions organized by Take Off. At Spot Admissions Events, students also get an opportunity to meet university representatives personally.

Application Procedure

Though each University specifies its application procedure / requirements, generally one can apply for admissions through us at Take Off Educational Consultants, where by all application, admission and correspondence services will be provided by us. You can give us all necessary supporting documents and we will assist you with the entire admission procedure.

Spot Interviews

Spot Interviews are also conducted by several visiting Universities at our offices: In this case, one is required to attend an interview conducted by university staff/ faculty, who will offer the student an on the spot decision, about whether or not he is eligible for admission. Also, further relevant inquiries can be made and are usually answered by the representative.

  9. Work experience letters (if applicable)

  11. Any other relevant certificates
  12. Portfolio of work must also be included, in case of application for courses in art / design etc.
 VISA

Paper File Lodgement

VFS Global Services Pvt Ltd is a commercial company working in partnership with the Commonwealth of Australia to provide Australian visa application services in India and Nepal. The Visa Application Centers in India and Nepal collects applications and forward it to Australian high commission New Delhi.

Students from India lodge student visa application either under SVP or general category under AL 3-4. Once lodged the visa officer will assess the visa file. Medicals are to be done only when the visa officer asks to do so. Student may be called for video conference interview or through telephonic interview.

Label free visa processing

From 01 October 2012, Australian high commission, New Delhi as a part of the Australian government’s global program has introduced visa label – free travel arrangements across India, Nepal and Bhutan. Applicants will no be required to submit their passport with their visa application. Instead they will be required to submit a notarized copy of each used page of their passport.

On visa grant, the visa holder will be issued with a visa grant letter that will explain the conditions of the visa including period of validity and entry requirements. The visa grant letter is not necessary to facilitate travel but it is strongly recommended to carry their visa grant letter with them when traveling as it will provide them with easy to understand information about the conditions of the visa, information which was not always easy to find on Australian visa labels.

Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP)

From 24 March 2012 the Australian Government introduced Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP) arrangements under Knight’s Review, for international students applying with a Confirmation of Enrolment for Bachelor, Masters or Doctoral degree courses at a participating university. Eligible applicants will be assessed under lower migration risk (similar to the current AL 1), regardless of their country of origin.

Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE)

From 5 November 2011 Genuine Temporary Entrant was introduced for students who wish to study in Australia. A genuine student is a student who intends to obtain a successful educational outcome and has the language, educational and financial background to have a reasonable chance of achieving this educational outcome. Factors considered under to be a genuine applicant for entry and study as a student include: English language proficiency; financial capacity; prerequisite schooling; age requirements; and intention to comply with visa conditions. This requirement indicates an individual’s intention for a temporary stay in Australia. For a student visa to be granted, a student must be a GTE.
